(JNS.org) Fresh off his re-election, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the Islamic Republic will continue missile tests “if technically necessary.”
“Our missiles are for our defense and for peace; they are not offensive. Know that while there is a technical need to conduct missile tests, we will do so and we will ask the permission of no one,” Rouhani told reporters in Tehran.
Rouhani’s statement comes as President Donald Trump, who just finished a visit to Saudi Arabia and is currently visiting Israel, came out forcefully against Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, its ballistic missile program and its state support for terrorism.
The U.S. and Israel “can declare with one voice that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon—never, ever—and must cease its deadly funding, training and equipping of terrorists and militias, and it must cease immediately,” Trump said Monday in a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.
