Israel: August 1 Entry Date for Tourists Delayed, No New Date Set

(i24news) The date for the entry of vaccinated tourists to Israel is being once again delayed due to fears over the delta variant of COVID-19.

The slipping of the August 1 date was announced in a press conference on Sunday, July 18, by Health Ministry Director-General Prof Nachman Ash.

“We are postponing the date for the entrance of tourists; it is not going to happen on August 1,” Ash said, according to The Jerusalem Post.

No new date for the entry of tourists was announced and Ash noted that additional travel restrictions were being considered by the Israeli government.

Travel internationally for Israelis is not advisable due to the contagiousness of the delta variant, Ash said.

Separately the Israeli government is examining the reimposition of digital surveillance for individuals obliged to isolate due to concerns over a COVID infection.

Under the plans, a person quarantining could receive a text message with a link, that when clicked on would show their location to the police service. Those failing to click the link could then receive a visit from the police.
