Israel Grants Lanner Temporary Residency Status

(Jewish Link) Baruch Lanner, 72, a former NCSY regional director and school principal who was convicted in 2002 for sexually abusing two teenage girls in the 1990s and served three years in prison, was granted residency status in Israel after he and his wife attempted to make aliyah. While his wife made full aliyah, Lanner was granted an A-5 Visa as someone “whose life is based in Israel.”

Although the Interior Ministry has the right to deny citizenship to specific groups, including those with criminal records, the ministry decided to grant Lanner temporary status as they review his case, with a ministry spokeswoman ensuring that the details of the case “will be thoroughly examined.”
