No, it’s not “Islamophobia” to criticize Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s ignorant assessment of any role the Arabs might have had with re-settlement of Europe’s post-Holocaust Jewish community in Israel.
To think that the Michigan freshman congresswoman gets a “calming feeling” when she thinks of the actions by Islamic leaders during WWII should be taken seriously by world Jewry and especially by elected officials. Her comments that the Palestinians provided a “safe haven” for the Jews is terrifying and simply wrong.
This is nothing other than Holocaust revisionism. It is the sort of screed one hears from Holocaust deniers such as David Irving, Louis Farrakhan and David Duke. Does the Congresswoman even know the name Haj Amin el Husseini, the Grand Mufti and puppet ally of Hitler? Did Michigan elect a person who does not seem to read history, that the Arabs chose to either be absent from partition talks or refuse two 21st-century land-for-peace overtures from Israel?
That the Democrat leadership, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, redirects the outcry against Tlaib toward Islamophobia shows they do not have the control nor the leadership that is needed to shut this language down immediately. Pelosi, if anything, contributes to the revisionism, and that is appalling.
Those who study the Holocaust know that in 1930s Germany there was the thought that the language of Hitler and his party was somehow minority opinion that would evaporate over time. But if we can’t get a member of the U.S. House of Representatives to get the Holocaust and the history of the State of Israel on point, then what do we do about those in the anti-Zionist camp who fully believe what Tlaib has said?
When anti-Semitism is running high in this world and with two recent and deadly synagogue shooting tragedies in this country, Tlaib is irresponsibly lowering the standards of Congress if not the world.
Where is the Democratic leadership on this issue?
Pelosi Tweets that Republicans are using “desperate attempts” to “smear” Tlaib. Holocaust revisionism cannot be an accepted part of this nation’s conversation. It must be identified and destroyed like any other disease.
These are difficult times, and the House Democrats need to speak out, even if it’s against one of their own.
