JKHA sixth through eighth grades participated in the school’s new interdisciplinary experiential learning program, Moadim L’STEAMcha. Students first learned all the halachot related to building a kosher sukkah. They learned the math behind the measurements of amot and tefachim and how that applies to the requirements of a sukkah. After learning many in-depth sources about Sukkot, they learned how to build a sukkah out of MakerSpace materials from Director of Educational Technology Mrs. Rubin. Students worked together in groups and were allowed to be creative with their sukkot as long as it followed the sources they learned. After completing their sukkot, they pasted the sources they used onto the outside of their sukkot. The sukkot were then put on display for everyone to enjoy.
Fourth graders also learned about defining a kosher sukkah and created their own innovative sukkot in the library’s MakerSpace. For inspiration, the students also saw a slideshow of sukkot from around the world, including the military! Thank you to the school’s media specialist for organizing this program.
