ITCON Hosts Cybersecurity Conference for Business Owners

ITCON, a Rockland County-based IT security services provider is hosting its first-ever cybersecurity conference, Thursday, June 20, at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey. With the increase of cyber threats facing businesses today, ITCON understands the risks and is prepared to provide practical advice from some of the best and brightest minds in the cybersecurity industry.

While many conferences specifically serve to educate security specialists, few are available for business owners themselves. This conference is intended to provide business owners an understanding of what to do to protect themselves from a cyber attack.

Industry veteran and ITCON CEO Leah Freiman describes this symposium as a “business protection conference.” According to Freiman, the question for most businesses is not will you be the victim of a cyber crime but rather when will you be the victim of a cyber crime? Freiman can’t stress enough the importance of educating yourself and your employees as to what measures are right to protect your business from infringement.

Cyber attacks on small businesses are becoming increasingly more common, yet business owners are not taking the threat seriously enough. According to security experts, hackers prey on small businesses because they don’t typically invest in high-end cybersecurity protection. Many small businesses don’t realize their vulnerability, making them a clear target for a cyber crime.

Studies show that 71% of cyber crime is against small businesses with 100 employees or fewer. On average, more than 140 days pass before a business even recognizes that it has been breached, after which close to 60% will go out of business within six months of the attack.

The conference will feature a live hacking demonstration during which an IT expert will simulate a behind-the-scenes scenario of how a hacker cuts through one’s defenses to gain access to secure network information.

The importance of cybersecurity is gaining recognition, yet many are still unaware of its critical value. Attacks can be detrimental to your business. Understanding what you are up against increases the likelihood of surviving.

Speakers include Yanky Weiss, CTO Fidelity; Mordy Fried, CEO Keystone Cyber Protection; and Abe Kramer, CEO Digacore; as well as other industry experts who will discuss topics such as surviving a sophisticated cyber crime, how threats grow with your business, PCI compliance and fighting back against hackers. In addition to an excellent line-up of presenters, there will be dozens of breakout sessions throughout the day.

The conference is open to the general public but will be primarily geared towards business owners, CIOs and other C-level executives. Freiman encourages all business owners to attend the conference to expand their understanding of valuable tactics and techniques as well as interact with other business owners and IT professionals for new ideas and take-home strategies.
