It’s a Musical Chanukah! Gift Ideas For All Ages

The new Maccabeats song is out, and it’s delicious! Called “Latke Recipe,” the newest a capella song from the YU group is set to the tune of “Shut Up and Dance,” by Walk the Moon. While you can watch the video on YouTube, it’s also available for download on iTunes, and the Maccabeats also released a Chanukah compilation album of traditional Chanukah songs. “A Maccabeats Chanukah” is available in stores or on iTunes for $6.93. Don’t forget to download the classic Maccabeat hits of “Miracle,” “Burn,” “All About that Neis,” and, of course, the one that started it all: “Candlelight.”

Tots (and their parents) are all about Rabbi Jake this season. The melodies from this peppy school rebbe from Atlanta are sweeping the Jewish world by virtue of clever, educational lyrics and high-energy danceable songs. Sing along with the Aleph Beis and learn about the mitzvos of Shabbos and tzedakah, find out all about an Israel-bound jelly bean, and, of course, don’t forget to “Roar Like a Lion.” “Rabbi Jake Vol. 1” is available in stores or on iTunes for $9.90. Each song costs around a dollar and is well worth the price for the thousands of times they’ll be played during carpool. Check school schedules for Rabbi Jake’s visit to the region this winter, or visit http://www.rabbijakemusic.com.

Shir Soul, a Teaneck-based a capella group run by David Ross, also has a new song out this week in honor of Chanukah, called “Lift Yourself Up.” Find the video on Facebook or YouTube by searching #LiftYourselfUp. This and other songs are available at http://www.ShirSoul.com.

The Jewish Link’s former summer intern Ilan Brownstein tells us that his Yeshiva University-based music group, the Y-Studs, is featured in a Manhattan Jewish Experience-sponsored song coming out for Chanukah from the bands 613 and AKA-Pella. Ilan is the one wearing the dreidel suit in the picture! To watch the video, search for the Y-Studs on Facebook, or the direct link to the video is here: http://youtu.be/FGUFKPkpw2k.

We also, in recent weeks, wrote about Zusha, which appeals to older teens and adults. While their new album, Kavana, isn’t expected out until January, you can pre-order on iTunes for $6.99. Teaneckers Elisha Mlotek and Zach Goldschmiedt, with Shlomo Gaisin, as three 20-somethings who share a passion for music, see themselves as melodic emissaries of inspiration whose band Zusha has been captivating audiences of all ages and religions. Zusha’s self-titled EP is available on iTunes and in stores for approximately $6.00.
