(Courtesy of JBS) JBS, the Jewish Broadcasting Service (jbstv.org), has announced that Rabbi Justin Pines has been named chief executive officer of JBS, the national nonprofit Jewish television network broadcasting Jewish educational and cultural television. JBS aims to foster Jewish understanding, Jewish identity and Jewish commitment across a wide and diverse Jewish and non-Jewish community. Rabbi Pines takes on his position immediately.
“All of us at JBS are very excited about this next step for JBS following the passing last year of JBS founder Rabbi Mark S. Golub, who led JBS for 16 years,” said Kenneth R. Asher, chair of the board of directors of JBS. “Rabbi Pines will be responsible for executive oversight of JBS, including developing our vision and strategy, growing our partnerships, expanding our audience, leading our programming and overseeing our content.”
The grandchild of four Holocaust survivors, Rabbi Pines is a Harvard-lawyer turned Jewish educator, who served most recently as director of lay education at the Shalom Hartman Institute. He previously served as director of character development at Ramaz Middle School, and as a senior fellow at the JJ Greenberg Institute for the Advancement of Jewish Life, working closely with Rabbi Irving ‘Yitz’ Greenberg. He received his BA in communications at the University of Pennsylvania, is an alumnus of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, and received his rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah. Previously, he practiced corporate law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP, and in the legal department at Warner Bros. Entertainment.
“The shocking terror attack of October 7, ensuing painful war and dramatic increase of visible global antisemitism have asked all of us to deeply evaluate and reinvest in our relationships with the Jewish mission, the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and I am excited to shed light upon and strengthen those connections through the JBS community, its partners and its programming,” Pines said.
Rabbi Pines was the guest on “In the Spotlight with Abigail Pogrebin” on JBS, which is available on virtually all streaming services.
