(Courtesy of JCC MetroWest) Israeli-focused cinematic offerings are sizzling at the J this summer, with a boom of programming covering the big screen from North Jersey to Tel Aviv and back again. First up is an exclusive J-Films sneak preview of the highly anticipated flick “Golda,” starring Helen Mirren as the titular former Israeli prime minister. The film will be presented in partnership with The Village at SOPAC, where it will be screened as well, on August 24 at 7:30 p.m.. Additionally, JCC MetroWest will be presenting the inaugural J-Films Israeli Cinema Seminar, a three-part series, beginning on September 7, continuing the wave of Israel-centric programming at the J’s Goldstein Center for Israel and the Diaspora, located at their West Orange campus.
The J-Films preview of “Golda” is an exclusive event offering the screening of this greatly awaited film prior to its official release in select theaters. A talk-back with JCC MetroWest’s Director of Film, Stuart Weinstock will follow the screening. All tickets are sold by The Village at SOPAC online: jccmw.us/golda and in person at the Village at SOPAC box office, located at 1 SOPAC Way, South Orange. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for seniors and SOPAC members. Service fees may apply to online ticket sales.
The J-Films Israeli Cinema Seminar at the Goldstein Center for Israel and the Diaspora will be a short series of three 90-minute, film-clip-and-discussion-based classes on Israeli Cinema led by Stuart Weinstock who (in addition to his roles as director of the J’s New Jersey Jewish Film Festival and programmer for J-Films) is professor of Topics in Israeli Cinema at Columbia University. This class is an exclusive experience designed to appeal to people with little to varied knowledge of Israeli cinema and television. The class will be held at 1 p.m. on three consecutive Thursdays in September—the 7th, 14th and 21st (9/7, 9/14, 9/21) at the J’s Goldstein Center for Israel and the Diaspora, located at JCC MetroWest at 760 Northfield Avenue in West Orange. The price per class is $18 for JCC MetroWest members and $25 for non-members. Pricing for all three classes is $48 per member or $65 for non-members. The seminar is open and available to all.
