JCC Programs for Senior Adults:

REAP (Retired Executives and Professionals)

This group gathers on Tuesdays for a brown-bag lunch and then participates in spinoff programs including bridge, current events, book discussions and more. Meets Tues, 10:30 a.m.–1:45 p.m.

The Senior Activity Center (SAC):

Bergen County Kosher Nutrition Site

Geared for people 75 and older, this active senior club enables otherwise homebound seniors to get out, meet new people and enjoy themselves in the company of their peers. It meets daily (Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–1:45 p.m.) for a full day of programming with attentive staff supervision. Activities include exercise, lectures, musical entertainment, social games, blood pressure and nutritional screenings by doctors and registered nurses, round-trip door-to-door transportation in handicapped-accessible vehicles, nutritious, light kosher breakfasts, hot kosher lunches and more.

Kaplen Adult Reach Center (ARC)

This social day care for frail seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia meets four days a week (Mon–Thurs, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.) and provides activities such as exercise, dancing, holiday celebrations, entertainment, baking, intergenerational activities, reminiscing and more—all in a bright, spacious room with an adjoining patio and garden that overlooks a children’s playground. It includes a kosher breakfast, hot kosher lunch, respite for their caregivers and more.

Free caregiver support groups and dozens of special monthly lectures and programs are offered for seniors in the community, including Yiddish concerts, cooking demonstrations, trips and outings and even a senior prom, a special dance for seniors and their families.
