JCOT Presents on Post-Partum Depression

On Sunday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at the Jewish Center of Teaneck, there will be a presentation entitled “Postpartum Depression: Raising Awareness and Breaking the Stigma.”

Arona Berow will share her own personal experience with postpartum depression, followed by a presentation by Marilyn Laves, LCSW-R, a psychotherapist specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

The presentation will address the causes of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, how postpartum depression differs from the “baby blues,” various treatments and what we can do as a community to ensure that women do not suffer in silence.

Marilyn Laves is a licensed clinical social worker with a graduate degree from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She has worked in the mental health and substance abuse fields for over 20 years providing psychotherapy, clinical supervision, program oversight and training (see https://wmhcny.org/profile/marilynlaves). For information or a confidential consultation, email [email protected].

Arona Berow, LMSW, is a licensed social worker currently working as the Partners in Caring social worker for the Jewish Community Services program at The Jewish Board of Family and Children Services (JBFCS). Arona received her MSW from Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work where she concentrated in social group work. Arona has experience working with clients of all ages, especially teens and older adults. She has also worked with adults with developmental disabilities, as well as many other clients of diverse age, culture, ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds. As well, she has experience running different kinds of support and empowerment groups. Arona is committed to destigmatizing and normalizing mental health issues, and she is proud to share her story in order to empower others to do so as well.

The presentation is open to the community. Women and men are encouraged to attend. The Jewish Center of Teaneck is at 70 Sterling Place. The entrance is by the ramp on the side of the building.
