Last week, JEC students strengthened their connection to Israel, in their hearts, minds, tefillot and actions.
Yom Hazikaron was commemorated through discussions about what it means to give one’s life serving and protecting Israel and remembering those who were murdered simply because they were born Jewish. Rabbi Neuman spoke to the entire school and raised awareness towards our part in helping to keep this all important legacy alive and strong.
On Thursday, the sadness turned into joy as the school celebrated Yom Ha’atzmaut. A beautiful Hallel featured lots of singing and dancing. Traveling Treats Ice Cream truck came by to deliver yummy flavors of fun. The boys also watched a compelling video presentation from former Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks on the connection between anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, Judaism and Israel.
Fun and games followed including volleyball and soccer, Israeli-style cooking and a special shiur by Rabbi Sariel Malitzky on the Magical Koach of Eretz Yisrael.
On Friday, eight chayalim visited and shared amazing stories of pride and hashgacha pratit with the students. Their courage and bravery is a lesson to all of us, and JEC was so privileged to be able to host them and hear their stories.
