JEC High School Welcomes Rabbi Joshua Hess as JV Basketball Coach

The JEC High School is pleased to welcome Rabbi Joshua Hess as JV basketball coach.

Rabbi Hess, a native of Los Angeles, starred on the basketball team at YULA before attending Yeshivas Ohr Yerushalayim for two years. He then studied at Yeshiva University for one year before transferring to Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, from which he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Talmudic law, and semicha in 2006.

While studying for semicha, Rabbi Hess served as a rebbe in a Yeshiva high school for teenagers at risk, and taught Gemara and halacha classes every morning at a local shul.

After receiving semicha, Rabbi Hess and his family moved to Denver, Colorado., where he served as the Rabbi of the DAT Minyan, a dynamic shul that grew from seventy to more than one hundred families during his tenure. Rabbi Hess received his master’s degree in pastoral counseling from the Iliff School of Theology, and served as the student chaplain at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange.

Rabbi Hess, proud father of JEC High School students Dani and Akiva, is currently serving as Rav of Congregation Anshe Chesed in Linden. He is extremely excited to coach our boys, while focusing on their development not only as players, but as budding b’nei Torah as well.
