The JEC is piloting a leadership training initiative with its fourth grade boys. Recess is a critical part of fostering students’ social and emotional growth. To maintain a healthy social dynamic, the boys use a rotation to determine who will be sports captains during recess each week. The captains of the week sit with the school’s psychology intern, Ben, to discuss leadership and good sportsmanship. The boys are acquiring authentic experience in how to treat players fairly, encourage teammates, inspire confidence and increase teamwork and comradeship—skills that are essential both on and off the field!
