JEC Lower School Is Full STEAM Ahead

This year, JEC students have the privilege of adding a new special to the exciting lineup of specials they partake in each week in the JEC Lower School. Mr. Garcia plans fun and creative educational lessons where students have the opportunity to experience STEAM in a hands-on way. In the past few weeks, the second grade STEAM class, learned about water density, salt water and fresh water while also being introduced to lab materials like test tubes, graduated cylinders, beakers and droppers. They connected this lesson to their knowledge of the Dead Sea.

First graders learned about light, light sources and shadows. The students were able to see differences between opaque, transparent and translucent objects. They put their knowledge to practice when they drew their classmates’ hand shadows on paper. In fourth grade STEAM, the students learned about convection currents under the ocean. Students saw how warm water rises, and cold water sinks. They learned that there is more energy in hot water and they were able to better understand the impact that waves in the ocean have. The students look forward to Mr. G’s tailor-made lessons and they are excited to see what next week will bring!
