On March 29, JEC Middle School boys participated in a virtual mission to Trenton through Teach NJ. Students had the opportunity to learn about the legislative process on the state level and to advocate for a cause, in this case security, transportation and STEM funding for non-public schools. The program began with words of inspiration from Justice Richard Bernstein, a Michigan Supreme Court justice who is blind. He spoke about overcoming challenges and making the most of opportunities throughout one’s life. JEC students were then placed in a breakout session with the chief of staff for State Assemblyman William Sampson. The students who volunteered to present the case for more funding, asked thought-provoking questions, and everyone else who sat and listened respectfully, made the school proud and hopefully helped serve as advocates to help non-public schools. The program concluded with State Assemblyman Gary Schaer sharing that as Torah Jews we must carry ourselves as representatives of Hashem and try to make a kiddush Hashem in all that we do.
