The students of JEC elementary school participated in MLK day assemblies. In first and second grades, the student watched a short video about King’s life, and answered the question, “How can I create change in the world?”
In grades three through five, students did a gallery walk through a variety of pictures and captions depicting the Civil Rights Movement from 1954-1974. Students were asked to use sticky notes to ask questions or make comments on the pictures. Students then watched the “I have a Dream Speech” after which they asked many excellent questions which were fielded by Ms. Henderson and Mrs. Drazen. The program closed with a video of the Maccabeats and Naturally 7 performing “Shed a Little Light.”
