Embracing the spirit of the Pesach-related mitzvah of Maot Chittin (literally “money for wheat”), students from the Jewish Educational Center’s Yeshiva of Elizabeth donated over 10,700 portions of food to the local Jewish Family Service Kosher Food Pantry.
Students collected food for the past few weeks, beginning with the 100th day of school on February 26th, when the campaign was launched. “It provided a wonderful opportunity to integrate mathematical concepts, “ said Ellen Bloomberg, Yeshiva of Elizabeth math teacher, “and teach the kids about food portions and how to read nutritional information on labels.”
The winning classes that collected the most food were 3G, 5B, and 3B.
