JECHS Senior Seminars Continue

Last week, JECHS seniors had an incredible week in seminars. On Monday, they hosted Rabbi Steven Miodownik of Congregation Ahavas Achim, Rabbi Shlomo Landau of Torah Links and Rabbi Eliezer Slomnicki, a 2011 JEC graduate who is in kollel in Lakewood. Each offered his own unique experience of living out his Torah life in the Torah world. From rabbinics to kiruv to learning, each presenter gave the boys a taste of what his life is like and the impact he is trying to make.

On Tuesday via Zoom, they hosted Mark Wilf, chairman of the board of the JFNA and president and part owner of the Minnesota Vikings. Wilf, himself a JEC MS grad, spoke to the seniors and students in the Jews in Sports club about his family history, getting involved in sports management, and giving back to the community. He fielded many questions from the boys, which made for an amazing experience.

On Wednesday, Rabbi Baruch Ber Bender, the founder of Achiezer, came to speak about his unyielding efforts on behalf of Jews in need and how the boys can look to lead in the future.

On Thursday, seniors hosted Rabbi Daniel Mechanic of Project Chazon who answered the most fundamental questions in Jewish thought and philosophy. Rabbi Mechanic has lectured for Aish HaTorah and hundreds of other schools, delivering thousands of hours of seminars across the world over the last 30 years.

Friday, a day that was supposed to be filled with tremendous joy, was instead so heavily weighed down by the tragedy that happened in Israel last week. Instead of their usual activity of playing sports at the park, JECHS talmidim stayed together in the beis medrash to say Tehillim and share in a meaningful kumzitz, together asking for rachamei shamayim.
