(Courtesy of JFCS) The annual JFCS Meals-for-Wheels Ride to Fight Hunger was founded by David Feuerstein in 2011 (then 15 years old) to help raise money for the Food Assistance programs at Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey. Since 2011, the ride has raised over $900,000 to help people facing food scarcity in our community.
The JFCS Ride To Fight Hunger is a ride and hike event through scenic Hudson Valley. With 5 course options allowing for both hike and ride participation, the event provides an enjoyable experience for all ages. Funds raised will benefit the JFCS Meals-on-Wheels program, delivering 48,000+ meals to homebound seniors and disabled individuals in Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties. Funds also support the JFCS Food Pantries that serve nearly 200 families through the Teaneck and Fair Lawn locations.
“Our mission has always been to strengthen and enhance the well-being of all who call upon us.” Susan Greenbaum, chief executive officer of JFCS, said. “This amazing event provides an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate our community’s beauty: its people, its scenic riches and our shared compassion for the human spirit.”
The ride will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Bike routes range from 50 miles to 3 miles. For those who do not bike, there is a 2.3-mile hiking option through Rockleigh Woods Sanctuary.
The ride will take place rain or shine and start/finish at Temple Emanu-El, 180 Piermont Road in Closter, New Jersey. Registration for the ride is available at www.RidetoFightHunger.com. Parking is available onsite, and there will be food and beverages for hungry bikers.
