The Jewish Genealogical Society of New York invites members of the public to their next program on Jewish Ukrainian genealogy research. Lara Diamond will discuss the wide variety of online resources available to research one’s Jewish ancestors who lived in what is now modern-day Ukraine. The program will be on Sunday, November 20 at 1 p.m. in person at the Village Temple, 33 East 12th Street, New York City.
Contrary to popular belief, most Ukrainian records were not destroyed, and researching Ukrainian ancestry is very possible. In recent years, Ukrainian genealogical resources have become more readily available, both online and in archives. The status of Ukrainian research as of the date of the presentation will also be noted. Diamond leads JewishGen’s Subcarpathian Research Division, and runs multiple district- and town-focused projects to collect documentation to assist those researching their ancestors.
Those who are not JGSNY members and would like to attend should RSVP to [email protected]. For more information on the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York, visit https://jgsny.org.
