Jewish Home Family President Carol Silver Elliott Takes Helm at LeadingAge

(Courtesy of Jewish Home Family) Jewish Home Family President and CEO Carol Silver Elliott was installed as chair of the board of LeadingAge, a national organization that brings together more than 6,000 nonprofit elder care member organizations and partners representing the entire field of aging services.

“LeadingAge is fortunate to have Carol Silver Elliott’s leadership as chair of our board of directors beginning January 1, 2020,” said Katie Smith Sloan, LeadingAge’s president and CEO. “Carol brings the kind of commitment, experience and passion we need at this time as we tackle the challenges associated with a society that is rapidly aging.”

Silver Elliott was unanimously selected by the National LeadingAge board of directors and addressed the organization’s national convention in San Diego. The organization has 39 state associations, hundreds of businesses, consumer groups, foundations and research centers. LeadingAge is also a part of the Global Ageing Network, whose membership spans 30 countries.

“We must shift the country’s mindset from thinking about aging as a health care issue to a broader societal one,” Silver Elliott said at her installation. “Regardless of our date of birth, we are all entitled to be treated as individuals, with respect and attention. We deserve the opportunity to express ourselves, to be addressed directly and not through a third party—well-meaning though they may be. None of us would choose to be marginalized or disenfranchised. Why would we allow it to happen to our older adults?”

Since 2014, Silver Elliott has been president and CEO of The Jewish Home Family, the parent organization the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, Jewish Home Assisted Living, Jewish Home Foundation and Jewish Home at Home. Previously, she served as president and CEO of Cedar Village Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio. Silver Elliott served as chair of the Association of Jewish Aging Services from 2013 to 2015. She is also a member of the boards of LeadingAge New Jersey and the Visiting Nurse Association.

“I am honored to serve in this role,” Silver Elliott said. “I am committed to ensuring quality of life for older adults and believe that strong, nonprofit organizations are key to that effort. I look forward to working with my colleagues and with the staff of LeadingAge to help keep the issues and needs of our aging population in the forefront of public attention and political action.”
