I appreciated reading Mr. Zerkier and Mr. Sragow’s perspective on current Jewish Life at MIT (11/30/2024). It was gratifying to know that the kosher dormitory suite referenced in the article has been ongoing for 50 years, having been started by myself and several other Jewish students 50 years ago when we were freshmen and were assigned to a suite on the second floor of what was at the time a newly renovated dormitory building (with brand new kitchens)!
It is less gratifying to see the growing and more vocal anti-Israel and antisemitic vitriol at the school, but I would still agree with the authors that MIT, then and now, remains an excellent institution for its Jewish students, although it now has some additional work to do!
I would also add that one of the highlights of Jewish life at MIT was the warmth and hospitality of the greater Brookline and Boston Jewish communities, who, then and now, provide a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for Jewish students from all the surrounding colleges.
