I was shocked to see The Jewish Link accepted a two-page ad in the July 18 issue asserting, “The Torah world is under attack” in Israel. I thought The Jewish Link was pro-Israel. Yes, the State of Israel and its people (all of them) are under attack by Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. Yet the unidentified “Gedolei Yisroel” in the ad refer to the Israeli government. This group apparently only wants the economic benefits of being citizens or residents of the State of Israel, but generally refuse to share in the obligations and responsibilities of being citizens and residents of the State of Israel. Do they not understand that Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran want to kill them as well? The enemies of Israel do not distinguish between the different segments or groups within israel.
It is sad that The Jewish Link accepted an ad that focuses on the refusal of one segment of Israeli society to fully participate in times of extreme danger. It is even more sad that these supposed “Gedolei Yisroel” apparently refuse to participate, yet direct their followers to engage in violent gatherings in protest of Israeli government policies that divert security resources at a time of war.
The same is true for other groups in Israel at this time. In these dangerous times all segments of Israeli society need to act as responsible citizens. It was irresponsible of The Jewish Link to accept such an ad. While the newspaper is not vouching for this group, The Jewish Link does not accept all ads. This ad should have been one of them.
