Jewish students at Michigan State University (MSU) gathered together throughout the night of Monday, Feb. 13 to mourn those who were killed and to pray for the recovery of those wounded by a gunman who killed three students and critically wounded five others. Rabbi Bentzion Shemtov of MSU’s Chabad Student Center had just returned home from giving a class on campus when his phone started ringing, with people calling to ask for help or offer support.
When the campus lockdown was lifted, Rabbi Shemtov, joined by Rabbi Yisrael Pinson of Chabad of Greater Downtown Detroit, rushed to the hospital that was receiving victims of the attack, including those being treated for shock. The rabbis went from there to the Jewish fraternity AEPi, where fraternity members had gathered. At 2 a.m., they prayed together. For for information, see https://www.chabad.org/5825388
