‘Jews in Sports’ Will Be a New FDU Yeshiva Program Class in April

Professor Ira Jaskoll will be teaching a new course he designed, entitled “Jews in Sports,” within the FDU Yeshiva Program for Pesach Z’Man, which meets for 11 mornings from April 3-21, excluding Yom Tov, at Congregation Bnai Yeshurun, Teaneck. The class will look at the contributions that Jews have made to the field of sports and will include guest speakers, videos and a trip to a Yankee game. Potential speakers include Mark Wilf, president and owner of the Minnesota Vikings; Ephraim Zayat, owner of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah; Paul Cohen, super sports agent; Joel Mael. co-chairman of the Miami Marlins; Tracy Wolfson, NFL sportscaster; Marty Appel, former PR director of the NY Yankees; Johnny Halpert, longtime basketball coach at Yeshiva University; Jeff Idelson, president of the Baseball Hall of Fame; Ron Blomberg, the first designated hitter; Jody Alter, director of the Israel Association of Baseball and recent participant with the Israel baseball team at the World Baseball Classic; and Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer, former commissioner of the Israel Professional Baseball League. Videos shown will be the “Hank Greenberg Story” and “Jews and Baseball: an American Love Story.” The course will look at all sports, the Jews who played in them and the owners and executives.

To register, go to FDU.edu/Yeshiva and complete the application and registration form or just come to class the first day and register. It will be a lot of fun. For additional information, please email [email protected].
