The 70th anniversary of Israel’s Independence was marked on April 19 at the Bergen County Administration building featuring a celebration of the independence of the state of Israel. The event began with an invocation and prayer for Israel by Rabbi Daniel Goldberg of Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood, followed by introductory remarks by Bruce Brafman, Jewish Community Relations chair of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. A proclamation was presented by James J. Tedesco III to Bruce Brafman. The event closed with a beautiful performance by the Moriah School choir. Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and the Office of the Bergen County Executive co-sponsored the annual event, which was originally spearheaded in 2013 by Chosen Freeholder Tracy Zur, who must be thanked and acknowledged for continually striving to ensure and acknowledge that our home and country, Israel, is celebrated in our community.
