JFS MetroWest will present a free program, “Anybody Have a Map? Navigating Mental Health for Teens,” geared to parents of middle and high school students on Wednesday, November 29, 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the Millburn Library, 200 Glen Avenue in Millburn. This program is open to the entire community.
Sara Mendez-Emma, LCSW, and clinical director of child and adolescent services at JFS MetroWest will be leading a discussion about how to open the lines of communication with your child and what, when and how to talk to your child about stress, worries and their feelings. She will share possible warning signs for emotional distress and provide parents with practical information on how they can help. For more information or to register, please contact Sylvia Heller, MPH, at 973-765-9050 ext. 1708 or [email protected]. This program is generously funded by the Eric Eliezer Levenson Foundation for Hope, a foundation created in memory of Eric, son of Eta and Mark Levenson, which supports programming related to mental health awareness. It is also funded by a matching grant from the Jewish Funders Network and Genesis Prize Foundation as part of the “Breaking Barriers” initiative aimed at promoting inclusion for those with disabilities in Jewish life. With these funds, JFS MetroWest is training its staff on additional treatment modalities, offering programming in the MetroWest Jewish community related to the stigma of mental health, including understanding the potential impact of anxiety and depression, and providing educational programming on suicide prevention.
