JFS MetroWest Offers Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation Classes

Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ is pleased to announce that its Center for Mindfulness will offer a six week introduction to mindfulness meditation Tuesday evenings from April 25 through May 30, thanks to generous funding from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey.

Mindfulness is a simple, powerful practice that gives people the tools to access their inner resources and wisdom. Mindful awareness frees people from worries, regrets, judgments and emotional reactions. The classes will teach participants the basics of mindfulness meditation; help to develop and apply techniques for addressing intense emotions; and cultivate self-acceptance, gratitude, kindness and compassion. Mindfulness can be practiced by people of all ages and backgrounds, and no prior experience is necessary.

The classes will take place on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from April 25 through May 30 at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, located at 1025 South Orange Avenue in Short Hills. The six-week session costs $180. The workshop will be facilitated by Beth Sandweiss, MSW, who has over 20 years of experience working with teens and adults. She was trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at UMass Medical Center and in the Mindful Schools Program for K-12.
