In 2005 Saul Rosenblum launched the not-for-profit organization “The Generosity Series,” with the mission to provide all charities a powerful peer-to-peer fundraising platform without the heavy lifting, risk and expense that typically accompany Run/Walk events. He wanted to pair healthy activities with charitable fundraising, and raised over $600,000 in that first attempt. This is the third year they have run events, and Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey has partnered with The Generosity Series both this year and last.
This year’s 5K event took place on Sunday, May 28. JFS staffers, along with many other community volunteers and supporters, joined the team to raise $34,000 for JFS.
To date, Ruth Margolin tops the leader board in fundraising for JFS with $1,752. Close behind is Steve Rosen from Adath Israel, with $1,700.
Twenty-six people represented JFS in a field of 147 runners. Top honors in the race from the Elizabeth/Hillside community went to Joseph Mason, from Elizabeth, finishing second overall, and second in his age category amongst male runners 20-29. Mindy Goldberger, representing JFS, finished an amazing ninth overall, and even stronger as third in her age category amongst female runners 50-59. Philip Baird finished with high honors, coming in fifth overall and fifth in the men’s category of 50-59. Steve Rosen of AI finished with a very strong 14th overall and ninth in the 20- to 29-year-old men’s category, followed closely by Rabbi Raphael Karlin of AI, as he finished 18th overall and 11th in his age group of 20- to 29-year-old men. Ari Rockoff finished a very respectable 30th in the field of 147 runners, and 22nd also in the age group of 20- to 29-year-old men. Chaim Pinsker finished 44th overall and 30th in his age category of 30- to 39-year-old men.
Steve Rosen said this was his third race, and he participates as a volunteer because he understands the important role of JFS in the community. Every day, Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey provides skilled and compassionate vital health and social services to children, adults and families.
