JFSCNJ to Present ‘Caring For an Aging Loved One’

Jewish Family Service of Central NJ (JFSCNJ) will present a two-part virtual program, “Caring for an Aging Loved One” with renowned clinical psychologist Dr. Irit Felsen, at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays Nov. 29 and Dec. 13.

Dr. Felsen, a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma, will provide guidance on how to manage “caregiver burnout,” practice self-care and resilience.

Dr. Felsen is an adjunct professor at Columbia University and at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. She is in private practice in New Jersey; a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) trauma division and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress; chair of the older adults work group in the APA Interdivision COVID-19 Task Force; a board member of the Holocaust Council of MetroWest; and a co-chair of the trauma work groups at the NGO Committee on Mental Health at the United Nations. Her papers have been published in peer-reviewed professional journals, and her research was the basis for a book titled “Psychoanalysis and Holocaust Testimony: Memories of Unwanted Social Trauma.”

Dr. Felsen is a sought after speaker presenting nationally and internationally about the long-term effects of trauma on survivors and about the intergenerational transmission of trauma to the children of survivors.
