When the calendars change to Kislev, the activities in the Bruriah’s Junior High (JHB) reach new heights. With the onset of Chanukah, focus shifts from the classroom to the various chagigas and school functions. The Big-Sister Program, a series of fun gatherings between the eighth-grade girls and JEC first graders that’s one of the highlights of the year, begins in December and runs through the end of the year.
The first activity, which took place in early December in the JEC lower school, gave the girls a chance to get acquainted with their “little siblings” through an educational color game. “We really enjoyed getting to know the younger kids in our communities — it’s a great thing to be a part of,” says JHB eighth grader Shana Schwartz. The groups of big sisters and their respective little siblings were able to bond during a Chanukah-themed game of “Minute to Win It.” It was an amazing experience that allowed for responsibility and the opportunity to be role models, and the big sisters and their little siblings can’t wait until their next program!
