The sixth grade students and parents at JKHA came together to discuss two big issues facing sixth graders, bullying and internet safety/awareness. The students were engaged in a fun, team building exercise where they had to work together towards a common goal. The idea was to promote positivity and community building, all of which combat bullying.
The parents heard from middle school guidance counselor Ms. Wasserman about how the school is targeting and addressing bullying from all angles. From the “Kushner Kool” initiative that promotes catching positive behaviors aligned with the current guidance theme, to small group sessions delving into bullying in a real and relatable way, students are learning about perspective taking and thinking before you speak or post.
Next, parents heard from Project SARAH about internet safety and awareness and how parents can be more aware of their children’s use of technology and ensuring their safety. The concept of cyber-bullying was also discussed so that parents can help be a line of defense in preventing cyber-bullying.
