Do you know how to write your name in Chinese? The first graders at JKHA do! Over the past few months the first graders have been conducting a hands-on investigation of China and the Chinese culture. They learned the geography, about time differences and about the Great Wall of China—and then built it with different materials. They read all about the Chinese New Year, made lanterns and dragon puppets, learned to write their names in Chinese, counted in Chinese and learned about the Hidden Army.
The students have really developed an understanding of the similarities and differences between American culture and Chinese culture, along with a heightened appreciation for the different traditions and ways of life across the world. The students were so excited to culminate their unit with a Chinese feast and dragon parade.
