JKHA Honors Our Country’s Veterans

JKHA students marked Veterans Day in many ways in order to appreciate our country’s veterans. Lower school students learned about American symbols and what a veteran is, and the different divisions of the U.S. Armed Forces. Students made pictures and wrote letters of gratitude to be sent to veterans throughout the country through an organization called A Million Thanks. Second through fourth graders had the special opportunity to hear from Charlie Larkin, veteran of the U.S. Army (and JKHA parent) who spoke about his experience serving in the army and being stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Middle school students marked Veterans Day first with hearing from Judge Keith Freedman, founder of the organization The Jewish Soldier Project which aims to send care packages several times a year to Jewish soldiers stationed around the world. Students then made cards to accompany those packages to be distributed to the troops over Chanukah.

Yashar koach to eighth graders Ava Klibanoff and Sara Glantz who led an effort to raise money for Jewish veterans in honor of Veterans Day. The students sold American flag-themed masks, scrunchies, cookies and more. Klibanoff and Glantz began the initiative in honor of their grandfathers, both veterans.
