On Veterans Day, four remarkable veterans from the JKHA community came to speak to grades two through four. The veterans were greeted by patriotic signs, paintings and collages of American flags energetically decorated by nursery, pre-k, kindergarten and first grade.
Students had the unique opportunity to hear JKHA/RKYHS grandfathers Mr. Morreale, Mr. Polin and Mr. Glantz, and Mr. Coppinger, friend of a JKHA family. The veterans spoke to the students about their time serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. They provided details about how they were drafted or enlisted, their experiences in training camps, as well as offered details about the many locations around the world where they were deployed, including active combat in the Middle East.
Not only were their stories engaging and powerful, but the experience was enhanced when the veterans displayed memorabilia such as medals, photos, certificates and uniforms. It was a truly meaningful morning and JKHA extends a warm thank you to the visitors and to all veterans for their service to our country.
