JKHA Eighth graders were incredibly moved hearing a powerful talk from Hadassah Ben Ami and Hannah Cohen. A survivor of October 7, Ben Ami has written “The Heroes of October 7th” a collection of stories that shines light on the indomitable physical and emotional strength amongst Israelis – individuals from all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities – who used their own skills and talents to help and inspire others on that day and ever since. The book is targeted to children and written in a way to help them understand and process the events of 10/7 in an age appropriate way with child-friendly language that was overseen by a team of child psychologists. Ben Ami shared examples of stories from the book striking the balance of empathy and meaning for the students.
