JKHA Middle School Students Show Civic Spirit

A group of JKHA Middle School students attended Civic Spirit Day at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn. Civic Spirit Day brings together students from faith-based schools to connect and collaborate. Throughout the day, students built relationships and practiced problem-solving across differences. The experience culminated with a design challenge through which students expressed and presented their learning. The JKHA students joined 100 other middle schoolers from around the tri-state area for a day of interactive and engaging activities, exploring the theme “Justice for All.” Over the course of the day, they heard from several different people who work in various parts of our judicial branch and legal system. They also had the unique opportunity to attend a naturalization ceremony for new citizens. The day ended with a mock trial, with students playing all the roles in the case.  Civic Spirit Day gave students the opportunity to practice key skills like respectful dialogue, working with others, reflection and using civic knowledge to respond to challenges we face in today’s world.
