In preparation for Rosh Hashanah, JKHA sixth, seventh and eighth graders participated in their first module of Moadim L’STEAMcha, a new initiative that comprises a series of interdisciplinary holiday programs. Students first learned the halachot related to honey. They also explored the question: why is honey even kosher if it comes from a non-kosher animal? Students then learned a lesson prepared by the science department on how bees make honey. After engaging with the material in an academic context, the students had the opportunity for some hands-on fun as they made their very own flavor-infused honey to take home to enjoy at their Rosh Hashanah tables.
