JKHA Pre-K Cultivates Curiosity With Ladybugs

For the last three weeks, pre-k has been immersed in a unit on ladybugs. They’ve been following them since the beginning through their various stages. When they came back to school this week, they had ladybugs, and they were pink! The students were even able to observe one ladybug who had just emerged from its pupa. It was amazing for the students to see it transform from yellow with no spots to pink with spots by the end of the day. The classes read many books about ladybugs which taught them interesting facts, such as there are over 5000 different kinds of ladybugs all over the world. Some have spots, some have stripes and they come in all different colors. They also learned that ladybugs are all very good helpers to our environment by protecting the crops that farmers plant from harmful insects. This week, the students took one last observation and set their ladybugs free.
