Kol hakavod to the JKHA and RKYHS students and faculty members who took part in a hair donation drive organized by the RKYHS Hair Drive Committee. In total 52 people donated their hair! All of the participants donated a minimum of eight inches of their hair to Children with Hair Loss, a non-profit organization that provides human hair wigs to children and young adults facing cancer and other medically-related hair loss. They use the donated hair to make beautiful custom wigs and give them to children free of charge. A total of 416 inches were donated!
These individuals performed one of the greatest forms of chesed, giving a part of themselves to someone else. The drive was organized by the RKYHS student-led Hair Drive Committee, who attended to every detail to make the hair drive such a success. Several hairdressers from local salons donated their time to give everyone their cuts.
“A few years ago after I donated my hair at the Kushner Hair Drive and I knew immediately that I wanted to be involved in the process of making such an amazing event happen,” commented RKYHS Hair Drive Committee President 11th grader Elizabeth Rubin. “We had an outstanding amount of people donate their hair at the drive and seeing that was so heartwarming after all of the work that the committee put into it. The hair drive has played such an important role in my life and I’m honestly honored to have been able to organize this event and be a part of this mitzvah. I can’t wait to see what happens in the coming years after such a successful outcome.”
Added RKYHS Hair Drive Committee Vice President 11th grader Abigail Rosenfeld, “It felt so inspiring to see such an amazing turnout. Donating your hair is such a beautiful mitzvah to do and seeing our school community come together to perform this mitzvah was really powerful and inspiring.”
