Close to 30 JKHA and RKYHS students and some mothers took part in a hair donation drive at school. All of the participants donated a minimum of eight inches of their hair to Children with Hair Loss, a non-profit organization that provides human hair wigs to children and young adults facing cancer and other medically-related hair loss. They use the donated hair to make beautiful custom wigs and give them to children free of charge. Over 300 inches of hair were donated!
These individuals performed one of the greatest forms of chesed, giving a part of themselves to someone else. The drive was organized and run by the RKYHS student-led Hair Drive Committee, who worked diligently to make sure the event was a success. With clever hashtags like #itgrowsback and #shorthairdontcare, and a festively decorated room for the haircuts—complete with an “after” photo booth—the student committee created an inviting, fun atmosphere for the people donating to feel comfortable. Several hairdressers from local salons donated their time to give everyone their cuts.
