The second grade students at JKHA had the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite Miss Nelson book. Using their knowledge about voting and the rules that govern elections, the students agreed that the class voting process should be done by secret ballot, everyone should have privacy when they vote and no one can vote twice. Students cast their votes, submitted their vote in the class ballot box and then it was time to tally the results. The math problems they solved along the way were incredible! They were even able to project the winner before the final tally was counted using their keen problem solving and critical thinking skills. They also used the data to build a human graph of the results. The experience truly brought the democratic voting experience to life for the students.
