JKHA eighth grade students were given lessons by resident expert Rabbi Selengut on how to properly perform hagbah on a sefer Torah. As the boys become Bar Mitzvah, it is exciting for them to become more and more involved in the minyan. While many enjoy being baalei tefillah (leading davening on a daily basis), getting called up for aliyot and reading from the Torah, the students are now learning how to use their strength to lift the Torah for hagbah. It is especially gratifying to see the pride they have in raising the Torah for all to see, and the respect they give to the sefer Torah. It is JKHA’s wish that the students continue to demonstrate an excitement for being involved in tefillah and the Jewish community.
