The JKHA middle school Ivrit department has launched a new initiative called Bistro 75 in connection with Israel’s 75th birthday. Students are learning about special characters in Israel’s history and began with David Ben Gurion and Golda Meir. Each class spends two weeks researching one of the characters and once a month the classes gather in the Naomi Rosenfeld Kehilah Center for the bistro to hear students’ presentations about that person. They sit “in a cafe” as they drink their “shoko” (hot chocolate) and have Hebrew dialogues with their classmates about each figure, staying in character. They ask each other sample questions about their lives, establishment of the State of Israel, achievements, what they did in the past and more. Bistro 75 is a creative way for the students to learn about Israel’s history.
