JKHA Synagogue Basketball League Completes Successful First Season

Adult men’s league, comprising area synagogues, awards inaugural ‘Kiddush Cup.’

Livingston – This winter season saw the formation of a new men’s adult basketball league in which area synagogues could participate. The league began in early December and just ended last week.

Nearly every game was close. Overall records were similar, but in the end it was Congregation Israel of Springfield (CIS) that captured the inaugural “Kiddush Cup” trophy with a four-point win over runner up Temple Beth Shalom (TBS) of Livingston.

The CIS captain Hal Levy said, “I’m so proud of our team and it was really a great league to play in. Our guys were so happy to be able to participate and are already talking about next year.”

The other teams participating in the six-team league were Congregation Agudath Israel (West Caldwell), AABJD/Ohr Torah (West Orange) and Suburban Torah (Livingston), which was able to form two teams.

The teams played an eight game schedule, plus playoffs, and all games were held at Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy in Livingston. More teams are expected for next season, and all are welcome. Contact Seth Leeds at [email protected] for entry and information.
