JKHA Wins Girls YMSSA Soccer Championship

On Monday night the JKHA girls soccer team won the YMSSA league championship, defeating SSBC by a score of 8-4.

The JKHA team found themselves down 0-3 at the end of the first quarter, a predicament they had not faced before during the season. Coach Lauren Cubas then rallied the team entering the second period and the tide began to turn. At halftime it was 2-3 and the Cobras came back strong, scoring quickly in the second half. JKHA continued to score in the fourth quarter, ending the game with eight goals. All the girls played well, with outstanding leadership from Hannah Koppel and Liav Merlin on offense, and strong defense from Mari Kaufman. In this high pressure game, goalie Tara Cantor scored a goal for JKHA and stopped dozens of shots from the well-playing SSBC team.

JKHA’s Athletic Director Craig Goldman said, “This is a team that the school is very proud of for their soccer excellence, but more importantly for their middot and being a great example of how yeshiva sports should be played.”
