When Harry and Joshua Orlinsky, twin 10-year-old brothers from New Milford, wanted to try to raise money for tzedakah, they turned to the thing they love best—basketball. The boys thought that having a group of kids get together for a 3-on-3 tournament would be a great way to have kids their age have fun for a good cause.
On December 28th, 24 4th grade yeshiva student boys gathered for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise money for Chai Lifeline. The cost to participate was $18, but many chose to donate more. One participant, nine-year-old Elijah Mossberg, even donated $20 of his own savings toward the event.
The games were refereed by a group of 8th grade volunteers, including Sammy Weiss, brothers Eli and Romi Harcsztark, Chaim Weinstein, and Gilad Ginzberg. After an hour and-a-half of basketball, team “3,” comprised of Netanel Wiener, Dovid Reichman, and Avi Schachter won the tournament with a score of 7-6.
The boys raised $700 all to be donated to Chai Lifeline in honor of Sari Ort, a New Milford teenager who lost her battle with cancer last year.
