The Jewish Link of Bergen County and Gotham Burger would like to recognize 12 year Molly Weisbrot as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yavneh girl’s hockey team is off to a great start and Molly has a lot to do with their success. Coach Aliza Hiller told the Jewish Link of New Jersey, “Molly is an enthusiastic, dedicated team player. She has taken many younger hockey players from the team…under her wing to teach them to play the game.” When Molly runs sprints at her fastest, she motivates her teammates to do the same. Her game is so strong that she “can scare goalies away from their net” and her enthusiasm is palpable. For Coach Hiller “it is a pleasure to coach kids like Molly who love the game so much!” Molly herself is most proud that all of her efforts “pay off.”

In an interview with Molly, JLBC got a glimpse of how Molly operates. Her sister Hannah, a talented member of the Frisch hockey team, serves as a role model for Molly. In the professional arena, Molly looks up to Martin Brodeur—a winner of three Bradley Cups—as “one of the best Devils players of all time.”

In her own career, an early memory is of scoring a winning goal on the Mayanot Junior Hockey Team. Perhaps her fondest sports recollection is of attending a Devils game with her father and getting a puck.

To prepare herself for a game, Molly likes to enjoy a bowl of pasta. And when she is not playing sports, she takes pleasure in riding her bike and spending time with her friends.
