Job Search Strategies for Those 55+ to Be Addressed at Lavy House

An informational program on “Job Search Strategies and Volunteer Opportunities for People 55+,” will take place on Tuesday, May 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lavy House, 748 E. Broad Street, Westfield. The presentation by Susan Reeve, Jewish Family Service of Central NJ (JFSCNJ) career specialist and Amy Levine, Jewish Family Service Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Union County (RSVP) project coordinator, is part of a series of programs that are free and open to the entire community. A light lunch will be served. Kosher dietary laws observed.

Reeve said, “According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers over 55 make up 20 percent of the American workforce, and 70 percent of workers who have not yet retired plan to work well into the traditional retirement years.” Reeve, a career coach who focuses on job search skills and strategies, uses her unique knowledge of recruitment and human resources to help job seekers navigate the current job market.

The event will also feature a presentation about volunteer opportunities available in and around the Union County community through the RSVP program. According to Levine, “Many 55-plussers want a productive outlet for their spare time even if they are semi-retired or working part time. The RSVP program offers flexible volunteer opportunities in various placement areas such as food pantries, tutoring, visiting the elderly, serving meals at congregate nutrition sites and opportunities to recruit and manage other volunteers.

The Senior Resource Center at the Lavy House is a joint venture between Jewish Family Service of Central NJ and Temple Emanu-El of Westfield. The program provides programming and the services of Naomi Kreutzer, LCSW, each Tuesday. Programs are free of charge and open to the entire community.
